For My Family
As a part of each of my first classes, I wanted to evaluate the students' English levels. One way that I did this was to have them work together to write a short story based on a picture. The pictures that I used are of my family (the people here love to see pictures of your family). Below are the pictures and some of their stories...written just as they were received. Granted, their
English could improve, but their imaginations are great!
"One day, a lovely boy was bathing in the bath room. Suddenly, a toy duck swam towards him, looking at the boy with its big eyes. The boy became angry with it because he was sure that his eyes are much bigger than its. So he called his mother here. The boy put the toy duck on his head and asked his mother, "Look! Mum! Don't you think my eyes are much bigger than the duck's?"
"The glasses which the girl wears is magic. When the lovely girl had her fifth birthday, a magition give her magic glasses as a present. Whoever wears it can help her to realize her dream. One day she want to go abroad to have a visit, especially China. The girl said a magic word. Suddenly, two wings grow from her back, then she is on the way to China now. Sooner or later, we can see a lovely girl emerging in our sight."

"One day, the grandpa took the granddaughter to the market. When they came to the shop, the little girl, Isa, wanted to have some sweets. But the grandpa told her that it was bad for her teeth to have sweets. However, Isa still wanted sweets, even cried sadly. At last, she got sweets from her grandpa. Therefore, she smiled happily."
"How lovely a boy! That night, when he knew his uncle would go abroad to China, he felt happy
and sort of sad. He knew his uncle was exiting to the travels,
but he was too innocent to think his uncle would forget him. So he asked his uncle to take a picture for him and take it to China. And he asked his uncle to look at his picture every night. So he gave his uncle the most lovely expression, like we see. He is indeed a lovely boy, isn't he? We are thinking maybe we will have a chance to see him. Would Jonathan take him to China one day?"
